She Kills Monsters:
One for the Ages

Opening night of “She Kills Monsters”

She Kills Monsters is a lovely written play by Qui Nguyen that was performed by the amazing and talented Nighthawk Cast. From the giant Bug Bears to the colorful, creative, and beautiful breathtaking scenery, this play amazes even the most stubborn of audiences. After practicing for 7 weeks, the Nighthawk Cast brings Dungeons and Dragons to life but with a twist.

She Kills Monsters is a dramatic and comedic play which tells the story of Agnes Evans as she leaves her childhood home in Ohio following the death of her teenage sister, Tilly. When Agnes stumbles upon Tilly’s Dungeons & Dragons notebook, however, she is sucked into a journey of discovery and action-packed adventure in the imaginary world that was Tilly’s refuge.

The play was breathtaking, one for the ages. This is a must see if you’re looking for a good, funny yet dramatic play. With a running time of 1 hour and 15 minutes, the play doesn’t disappoint in terms of quality and comedy. The acting was fantastic and the story was absolutely phenomenal. The play didn’t stray away from colorful language and PG-13 topics.

Through the medium of Dungeons & Dragons, the play looked into serious common societal issues such as the LGBTQ acceptance or physical disability, shining a positive light on each. The characters grappling with these issues are empowered through the play’s narrative. For example, the shy outcast Tilly gives all her friends what they desire the most when they are transformed into their role playing personia. The mostly all LGBTQ female party conquers the impossible by mixing the real world with fantasy. The main character Agnes gets visions from her dead sister Tilly and it starts to affect her mind and her normal day life. With characters like fan favorite Chuck (Resharde Law) and boyfriend Miles (Tyler Imhof), she slowly starts to understand the secret life her sister lived but wasn’t able to know during their time together, creating a genuine, emotional experience that the audience won’t soon forget.
