Marvel’s Phase 4 plans emerged during the San Diego Comic-Con, and Marvel comic book fans are ecstatic. Marvel’s upcoming lineup of TV shows and movies includes:

  • The Black Widow prequel movie on May 1, 2020
  • The Falcon and The Winter Soldier Disney plus Series Fall, 2020
  • The Eternals on November 6, 2020
  • Shang Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings February 12, 2021
  • WandaVision Disney plus Series Spring 2021
  • Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness May 7, 2021
  • Loki Disney plus Series Spring 2021
  • Marvel’s What If Disney plus Series Summer, 2021
  • Hawkeye Disney plus Series Fall, 2021
  • Thor Love and Thunder November 5,2021

Many of the upcoming Marvel works do not have much information revealed to the public yet, but here is what we currently know:

The Black Widow movie won’t take place during the current MCU timeline due to her death in Endgame when she sacrifices her life so Hawkeye can obtain the soul stone. So we’re going back in time, maybe learning about her past and how she joined the Avengers, and possibly what happened in Budapest with Hawkeye

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Disney plus series will pick up after the events of Endgame. We the viewer will follow Sam Wilson, aka the Falcon, and now the newly appointed Captain America. We will also follow Bucky Barnes, the Winter Soldier, and Steve Roger’s old war buddy who was captured by Hydra and brainwashed to assassinate Howard and Maria Stark. But now that he is free of Hydra control, we will get to see how his friendship plays out with Falcon.

The Eternals are new to the MCU and not many people know about them. The main roster consists of  Ikaris, Thena, Sersi, Makkari, Zuras, and the Forgotten One. There have been many Eternals and not all may be present in the movie. The Eternals are experimental beings searching for revenge on the Celestials. There has been no clear plot set for the movie, but it may be an origin story as to how the Eternals were formed. Marvel will be revealing more about this movie on a later date.

Here’s a character that generally only hardcore comic book fans know: Shang Chi Kung Fu Master. First appearing in Marvel Special Edition #15, Shang Chi was trained by his father and was tricked into becoming an assassin. Eventually, he defeated his dad and later joined a team-up with Spider-Man, Iron Fist, Black Widow and many more. This is a solo movie and possibly an origin story. The main villain in this movie could possibly The Mandarin with the Ten Rings: including Remaker, Influence, Spin, Spectral, Nightbringer, Zero, The Liar, Lightning, Daimonic, and Incandescence. These rings hold a tremendous amount of power which could pose a potential threat to mankind itself.

The WandaVision series is one of the works with minimal released information. Fans are attempting to figure out the works of this show as it can’t take place during the current MCU timeline due to Vision’s death in Infinity War. It must be placed in the past after the Age of Ultron or after the events of Civil War to make sense. Until more is revealed, there isn’t much to say about the direction of this series.

Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness is probably the most exciting one on this list for die-hard Doctor Strange fans. Due to the aftermath of Endgame and Infinity War, Doctor Strange has been left without the Time Stone (one of the Infinity Stones which can stop, alter, and mess with time). The end of the Time Stone’s time with Strange does not spell the end of his story. In this movie, we are going to dive into the Multiverse, an endless universe that has alternate versions of heroes and villains. Since Marvel has not released a plot for this movie like many of its other upcoming works, there is not much to be said about its content, though it has been said that it will be the first horror movie to be part of the MCU. Specifics of the plot remain hazy, but Nightmare has been confirmed as the main villain. Nightmare is a demon-like wizard who traps people in their nightmares and brings them to life. He’s been a main villain within the Spider-Man, Ghost Rider, and Doctor Strange universes. It’s possible that previously dead heroes could be brought back via the multiverse.

The Loki Disney plus series will follow the timeline in which Loki takes the Tesseract, an event shown during Endgame. After that, we don’t know where he goes, but in this series, we will get to continue on a journey with this fan favorite. Loki was killed by Thanos at the beginning of Infinity War, so this will not affect the other heroes in the present MCU timeline.

Marvel’s What If Disney plus series brings up alternate timelines and different ways events could have played out with changes like if Iron Man had not died or if the Avengers were never formed. A lot of different possibilities could play out making this a must-see series.

The Hawkeye Disney plus series is all about Hawkeye and his daughter Kate Bishop. Like the previous Disney plus series,’ we don’t know the plot, but at the beginning of Endgame, we saw him training his daughter giving a slight easter egg to the upcoming series. Hopefully, in this series we get to see Hawkeye and Kate go on some father and daughter adventures.

Last but not least, Thor Love and Thunder is a movie with a murky plot. It is known that Valkyrie will be returning along with Thor. When we last saw Thor he was tagging along with the Guardians of the Galaxy at the end of Endgame. Thor is one of the three surviving members of the Avengers. The other Avengers have left the life of action due to their deaths and exit from the MCU. During the events of Thor Ragnarok, Asgard was destroyed. They moved it to Tonsberg, Norway. It’s possible that Valkyrie, the new queen of Asgard, will play a bigger role in this next movie.

Marvel fans are looking forward to what the MCU has in store for new and returning viewers. Personally, the movie I’m most excited about is Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, because I want to see how he’s going to get over the events of Endgame. I also want to see how the MCU is going to explore the Multiverse and how they are going to continue the MCU without the ever-looming presence of the Infinity Stones.
