Cars. They are a big step in a teen’s life. Lucky for us, we don’t really have to worry about choosing our cars because we don’t need a van to haul a family of 6 so this would be a good chance to get that car you have always wanted before you actually need a family wagon! Well, I really want that Dodge Hellcat Red Eye, but where on Earth is an average teen going to get $70,000? Most teens don’t have well-paying jobs to afford a brand new luxury car or they don’t necessarily have parents that spoil them. So what are those affordable starter cars that are still enjoyable? There is an affordable car for any purpose you just have to know where to look and have a bit of knowledge about vehicles. This article will discuss affordable cars ranging from many categories including fast cars, heavy-duty cars, or even just some affordable cars that won’t burn a hole in your pocket.

Fast Cars

Nissan 350z 2004-2007

This is that car that if you love her, she will love you back. These go around $5,000 to $12,000 with a 3.5 liter, V6 putting up to 306 horsepower. These cars are really good looking with some sporty 2 doors that surely won’t disappoint getting up to 17 miles city, and 23 highway. This car also has a large custom market, making it capable of being a high-performance car and making it look even better.

2006 Acura Rsx  2002

This car seems to be more parent-friendly due to its small engine and it having a better fuel economy. But, who says they have to know about the engine’s capabilities? Prices for this car range from $3,000 to $7,000 and indeed it is a good looking 2 door car. This car is a front wheel drive acquiring inline 4 K20A engine pushing from 155 to 201hp if you get the type S version. But don’t be fooled! Do some simple tuning modifications and it can keep up with any car that isn’t insanely fast due to how light it is. Just a few modifications and this car would mean serious competition to any other car.

Dodge Charger 2006-2010

This car here will totally impress the ladies. A big 4 seater with a roaring V8, this car is what any high schooler that likes cars and hauls a lot of friends wants. Prices range from $4,000 to $9,000 dollars depending on the year and if you get the RT version. Engine specs are either a 3.5-liter V6 engine with 250 hp or a 5.7 liter Hemi V8 making 340 horsepower. This is the car people know is fast and will not mess with, so if you really want a rumbling 4 door V8 you should most definitely consider getting this one.

Toyota  3rd generation 4runner

The Toyota 4runner 3rd Generation is perhaps one of the most reliable vehicles that can take a beating and will still love you. Prices for this car start at $3,000 up to probably $9,000. This car has a 3.4l v6 engine putting out 183 horsepower weighing about nearly 2 tons. Why is this heavy? Well, it has 4 wheel drive. If you are likely to be in scenarios where you can get stuck in crappy weather you should really consider getting this car. Trust me, it won’t disappoint you at all.

2002-2009 Ford Ranger

The Ford Ranger is a great truck if that’s what you’re looking for. Especially if you live in Colorado where the weather is always changing. You’ll always be prepared with that 4 wheel drive! The Ford Ranger has a great amount of horsepower pushing 207 hp with the 4.0l v6 motor. This vehicle is also in a great price range for a teen costing about $2000 and $8000 at the most. This truck is tremendously valuable for its cost being able to go over rough terrains and many bad weather conditions without even getting messed up it can sure take a beating just

2001 Jeep Cherokee XJ

The Jeep Cherokee XJ is a wonderful vehicle for a beginner with its 4 wheel drive, 4.0l, v6 engine 5-speed manual pushing about 190 horsepower! The 5-speed manual meaning it will be a rougher vehicle to get your hands on using both feet. Although, it is a rougher vehicle to work on it is very much affordable! Costing about $4,000 to $7,000 for a well-taken care vehicle which is not bad. This SUV does not waste that much gas getting around 17mpg which would save you a good amount of money on gas. Being a teen you would also like a spacious vehicle to carry your friends. Don’t worry this Jeep Cherokee XJ is able to carry 5 people total with a bit of space left. That’s not counting all the space it has in the back but I’m pretty sure you can carry 3 or 4 more extra people.

Low Mileage Cars

2006-2011 Honda Civic

A Honda Civic is a great teen vehicle to start off with. One of its main pros is the gas mileage. It might seem crazy but this car gets up to 28 mpg in the city and 39 mpg on the highway with the 1.8l, 4 cylinder motor going from $3,800 to $10,000 dollars. This car has a good amount of power for its size pushing around 140 horsepower. Definitely an off-radar car but what’s more impressive? A person who wastes their whole paycheck on their car or a person who is smart with their money?

Nissan Altima 2003-2009

The Altima is sleek and stylish and has good fuel economy. This car in my opinion really is good looking and has good gas mileage with a 2.5 liter 4 cylinder making 182hp going 24 miles city and 31 highway. Another good car to get for a high schooler, it’s also a 4 seater so you have more space than a 350z. It’s not as sporty, but hey, at least you’re going to save more money on your car!

Toyota Prius 2004-2010

As someone who likes cars, it hurts me to talk about this car in particular. But it does have a really, really good fuel economy. You’re going to save so much money if you get this car. You’re definitely not going to own a cool car but who cares if this car can save you the same amount of money that you used to pay for it. It has a 1.8 liter 4 cylinder engine making 184hp. Cheap and reliable years are 2004 through 2009.  These years range from $4,000 to $10,000 dollars. This is the car that you will appreciate after your high school years with all the money it saved you. It’s not fast and it doesn’t have a lot of space, but you definitely won’t be wasting money especially if you don’t really care about its setbacks.

This is a pretty short list, but it can get someone thinking about buying a car. Buying a car is a big step in a person’s life, but as a teen, you don’t really have much to consider in buying a car. So at the end of the day go with what you want and make sure it doesn’t burn a hole in your pocket. Drive safe!
