On November 10, 2018, the Minnesota Timberwolves finally fulfilled Jimmy Butler’s wishes. It was announced earlier on towards the beginning of the 2018-19 season that Butler had requested a trade from the Timberwolves.

On the 11th, Butler was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers. In return, Minnesota scored Dario Saric, averaging 13 ppg (points per game), and Robert Covington, averaging 12 ppg. The Timberwolves also gave away Justin Patton for Jerryd Bayless who averages 8 points a game and a 2022 second round pick.

Minnesota has just lost a very valuable player though it became clear that Butler not only had to go, but needed to go when he blew up at the team after returning to practice for the first time. He insulted the other players, attacked the coaches and everyone around him verbally. Who knows, maybe Butler leaving will fix the team’s lousy start to the season. The Timberwolves are better off without a player who’s waiting at every turn to leave and hating on the rest of the team. The last thing any team needs is bad chemistry between the players. It’s a fresh start for the Wolves without a nagging Jimmy Butler and a chance for Butler to take his career where he wants.

The Timberwolves won their first game without Butler against the Brooklyn Nets 120-113 on November 12. Butler will debut with the 76ers on the 14th against the Orlando Magic. It remains to be seen how he will impact the team, but it will probably be a benefit to the 76ers as long as Butler decides not to randomly start hating on the team. With Butler and Joel Embiid, Philadelphia has a pretty solid lineup. Both teams are in for a pretty new and interesting season.
